Holding drunk drivers responsible for injuries

Every motor vehicle driver carries a great responsibility. Each is responsible for his or her own safety, the safety of his or her passengers and the safety of other drivers, passengers, bicyclists and pedestrians on the road. When we consider that a momentary lapse of attention by a motorist can result in catastrophic injuries and property damages, common sense tells us how unwise it is to drink and drive. Nevertheless, numerous Virginia Beach drivers operate their vehicles while intoxicated every single weekend.

The fact is, alcohol impairs our judgment and many well-intentioned drivers end up getting behind the wheel to drive home after a night of partying. The state of Virginia has created stiff legislation to discourage this behavior. Anti-drunk driving advocacy groups, like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), have created educational programs to make sure drivers are aware of how dangerous intoxicated driving can be. These laws and programs have helped reduce instances of drunk driving accidents, but they have not eradicated it completely.

Some say that American roadways will not be free of drunk driving until self-driving automobiles become the norm, and cars no longer require human drivers, but technology is not quite there yet. In the meantime, we are faced with numerous drunk driving victims in need of costly medical care. We are also faced with families who are struggling to make ends meet following the death of a primary income provider.

At the Dickerson & Smith Law Group, we help injured drunk driving car accident victims, and the family members of deceased drunk driving accident victims seek compensation and justice. While no results can be guaranteed and every car accident injury claim is different, if a drunk driver hurts another motorist, motorcyclist, pedestrian, bicyclist or passenger due to the illegal operation of a vehicle while intoxicated, that driver can be held liable for damages. Victims can seek wrongful death damages, money for medical care, money for pain and suffering and other kinds of remunerations.
