Motorcycle accidents rise in the spring

If you ask most bikers, they'll tell you that motorcycle accidents absolutely go up in the spring. This can be one of the most dangerous times for a biker to be on the road, and not just because of the fog and rain that can blanket Virginia as things warm up.

One of the biggest problems is simply that drivers are not aware. The winter allows them to forgot about motorcycles, which are largely kept in the garage for the coldest months of the year. When the bikers hit the open road again, drivers still are not used to double-checking for bikes, and they can create accidents due to this lack of awareness.

After all, many motorcycle crashes are caused by cars and trucks, especially when drivers turn in front of motorcycles or merge into them when the bikers are hidden by a car's blind spot.

The road conditions in the spring can also contribute to crashes, though most of these happen because of bikers who are not looking for slick, water-covered pavement. The combination of winter residue and unaware car drivers can be deadly.

Furthermore, crashes often rise in the spring because a lot of people will go out and get their bike permits after winter. These new riders all flock to the roads, but they bring a lot of inexperience with them, even if they passed the tests. This is just one more factor that pushes the accident totals sky-high during this season.

If you've been hurt in a motorcycle accident this spring, be sure that you know what rights you may have to compensation.
