2 dangerous jobs in the United States

Let's face it. Some jobs in America are a lot more dangerous than others. This article will take a look at two of the most dangerous among them. If you are currently considering one of these career tracks, you may want to consider the risks before you set down on that path.

One dangerous, but very popular, job is airline pilot. Airline pilots tend to earn an average salary of about $98,410, so it can be an attractive career. These pilots require constant safety training because of the risks involved in the process of ferrying people from continent to continent, tens of thousands of feet high in the sky. In fact, before a pilot is allowed to get behind the controls of a commercial passenger jet, he must endure six to eight weeks of training. As of 2014, the number of commercial jet accidents had increased by 7 percent. The number of fatal crashes increased by 25 percent during the 2013 to 2014 timeframe.

Animal care workers also face a lot of dangers. However, unlike an airline pilot, these workers are not attracted to their careers for the pay. They only make about $19,970. While people are attracted to these jobs because they do not require a lot of education and they get to spend time with animals -- something that many people love -- there are some serious risks. For example, on-the-job animal bites, kicks and other attacks can have serious medical and health consequences. In fact, 11 percent of all on-the-job fatalities happen to animal-care workers in the United States according to the U.S. Census bureau. Many of these jobs are caused by horses and other large farm animals.

Workers who are hurt in an on-the-job injury in Virginia Beach may be able to qualify for workers' compensation benefits to help pay for their medical care. Almost all workers are covered by this insurance and -- in many cases -- it is the only way for an injured person to pay for his or her medical care and time spent unable to work.
