Allegedly DUI driver to face involuntary manslaughter charges

A single-vehicle crash happened in Loudoun County, Virginia, last week and it resulted in the death of one woman. The tragic incident was caused -- according to authorities -- by a 26-year-old man who was allegedly driving under the influence, and driving with a suspended license. In addition to the fatally injured woman, two other passengers suffered nonfatal injuries in the crash.

The woman who died was 22 years of age and pronounced dead at the accident site. One woman suffered serious but nonfatal injuries. The injuries of the driver, along with the other injured passenger, were not serious.

Authorities say that the accident happened while the 26-year-old driver was operating his Jeep Wrangler along Route 28. That's when he struck a traffic divider. The deceased woman and another passenger were ejected from the vehicle after the collision. The other man remained inside. The ejected passengers had not been wearing seat belts when the accident happened .

Involuntary manslaughter combined with drunk driving is a serious offense. The driver of the car may face time in jail if he is convicted of his charges in criminal court. A criminal court conviction will also support any personal injury or wrongful death claims that may arise from this tragic event.

If successfully navigated, personal injury claims filed by injured parties in a DUI-related car crash may bring victims money to pay for their medical care and money to pay for other damages -- such as lost income due to an inability to work, physical pain and suffering, emotional pain and suffering and more. Also, close family members of people killed by a DUI driver may be able to pursue wrongful death claims.
