May is the month for motorcycle safety awareness

Even though motorcyclists and drivers of other types of vehicles should be sharing the road at all times, the month of May is a time to learn more about why this is so important. May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and this goes a long way in helping motorcyclists, as well as drivers of other types of vehicles, understand that sharing the road and driving with caution is extremely important.

In the state of Virginia, many people apply for and get a motorcycle license every year. For every one male that gets his license, two females do the same.

Fortunately, Virginia has seen a decrease of 33 percent regarding motorcycle fatalities, due in some part to the fact that more women now have their license. According to AAA Mid-Atlantic, motorcycle injuries have reached their lowest point in the last four years.

Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month will help keep things moving in this direction, with the hope of even more improvement in the years to come.

With motorcycles on roads all over the state, both city and highway, motorists need to share the road at all times. Along with this, they should be aware of motorcyclists while also allowing plenty of space for everybody to maneuver in a safe manner.

On the other side of things, motorcyclists can improve their safety by making themselves visible, taking safety classes, and wearing the appropriate safety gear.

May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month for every state in the country. This is a big event, due to the fact that many motorcycle accidents every year result in serious injury or death.
