2 young girls die in tragic accident while woman flees cops

A driver has been charged with second-degree murder regarding the deaths of two young girls, who died in a car crash earlier this month. The accident happened along I-264 while the woman was allegedly trying to escape the police. The two young girls who died in the crash were riding as passengers in the woman's vehicle.

According to the accused woman's mother, the girls were not related to the driver, but they were as close as family. The driver's 1-year-old son was also riding in the vehicle, but he escaped injury -- probably because he was wearing a seat belt. The woman's mother told police that she had no idea why her daughter tried to avoid being pulled over by the police.

Virginia State Troopers report that the woman was traveling 77 mph in a 55 mph zone, which is why they tried to pull her over at approximately 2:50 p.m. However, before troopers could stop the woman, she tried to speed away in the direction of an exit ramp. That is when the woman lost control of her car, went off the roadway and hit multiple trees.

The young girls who died in the crash were 8 and 5 years of age. Unfortunately, neither of them were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision and they were both ejected at impact. The trooper who reported to the scene gave CPR to the girls until medical personnel arrived, but he was unable to save them. Both were pronounced dead at the crash site.

Sad stories like this happen all the time on Virginia roads, unfortunately. Because a crash can happen in any moment, it is wisest to always wear a seat belt and to always require that your passengers wear a seat belt at all times. Wearing a seat belt may also help individuals avoid getting into trouble with the law, since Virginia residents can get issued a traffic citation for failing to wear a restraint.
