Motorcycle riders tend to be some of the safest motorists on the roadway, but they are also in the most danger of being hurt and killed. It’s this risk of getting seriously or catastrophically injured, though, that promotes biker safety in the Virginia Beach area and inspires motorcycle riders to be as safe as possible.

Still, the dangers faced by motorcyclists are multiple. For one, motorcycle riders do not have the safety protection provided by a large car with a metal frame. Secondly, because car drivers have more protection, car drivers tend to be more reckless on the road and more likely to get into a crash. As such, it doesn’t matter how careful a motorcyclist is, he or she will be sharing the road with the majority of drivers in cars, who are not being nearly as careful. Third, the sheer weight and bulk of normal cars make them less maneuverable and more dangerous to be sharing the road with as compared to a motorcycle.

At the Dickerson & Smith Law Group, whenever we hear about a catastrophic motorcycle accident, we keep in mind the fact that motorcyclists tend to be the safest drivers and most capable of avoiding a car crash. Therefore, we always look to see if the vehicle driver or some other party was at fault in a particular incident.

Sometimes, police reports might say, for example, that the motorcyclist was at fault for a crash. However, in such a circumstance, it could behoove the motorcyclist and his or her lawyer to employ the services of an independent accident reconstruction specialist to analyze the accident scene to pinpoint the cause.
