Taking a break from work after an accident

On Behalf of The Dickerson & Smith Law Group | Jan 6, 2020 | Workers' Compensation |

When something goes wrong in the workplace, the consequences are severe in some instances. Victims of serious workplace accidents often struggle with debilitating injuries that interfere with their ability to do their job, and The Dickerson & Smith Law Group knows that these accidents cause many people in Virginia to face financial hardships and even emotional problems such as depression and anxiety. For some people, taking a break from work following a job-related accident is very important. Unfortunately, taking a break in and of itself often does not solve all of the problems brought on by the accident.

While taking some time off work usually helps people from a physical point of view, they likely have other hardships to work through, such as financial issues due to medical costs or missing out on wages that they were counting on. Some people find that they cannot perform their job duties any longer, even after they take an extended break. This necessitates finding another job or retirement, which is often challenging in terms of one’s finances. Fortunately, many people turn to workers’ compensation benefits when they are in this position and workers’ comp helps them move on in life.

Before applying for workers’ comp, it is crucial to have a clear understanding of the application process and different strategies that improve one’s chances of approval. Applying for these benefits is often tough for someone facing multiple hardships following a job-related accident, and our page on this topic offers more information for injured workers attempting to restore at least some sense of normalcy in their daily lives.
